Buick Lesabre Stalls out Driving

Question: I have a 2002 Buick LaSabre Custom, with a bit over 97,000 miles. While I am driving the car starts to sputter, and then shuts off on me. I have taken it to the mechanic 4 times and because when I bring it in it is not having that problem the mechanics say they can't figure out what the issue is. I have had the battery and alternator replaced by one mechanic, the line from the battery to the box under the hood cleaned of corrosion by the 2ND, and the something sensor replaced by a third, the fourth mechanic couldn't do anything. After all this I am still having the problem. Would you happen to know what might be causing this, and is it common in these cars.

Answer:
By what you describe the check engine light is not on. But, I would suggest still getting the computer scanned for codes if it has not been already. There are just too many things that can cause this problem on your car. Does it restart fine? Does it have to sit a while before it will start? Depending on what engine size, there could be several different causes. In general, you would need to have the fuel pressure checked and also check for spark and fuel injector signal as it stalls to find out what is missing. Then diagnosis of that system would be needed. Some guesses are a failing fuel pump, ignition module, computer, crank position sensor, ignition switch, etc.

I RECENTLY TOOK MY CAR TO THE MECHANICS SHOP TO FIGURE OUT WHATS BEEN GOING ON WITH IT. ONE MORNING I WENT TO WARM MY CAR UP AND TRIED TO MOVE IT AND IT WON'T MOVE. I THOUGHT TO MYSELF IT COULD BE THE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE I RECENTLY CHANGED THE ENGINE PRIOR TO TROUBLE I RAN INTO WHEN I FIRST BROUGHT THE CAR. THE MECHANIC CHECKED ALL MY FLUIDS AND MY TRANSMISSION AND SAID THAT THE TRANNY WAS GOOD. THEN HE TOLD ME THAT THE CAR IS HAVING ENGINE PERFORMANCE PROBLEMS. WHAT COULD BE SLOWING MY CAR DOWN OR COULD BE THE CAUSE OF THAT?

If the car wont move at all when putting it in gear, then it IS a transmission problem.
