Check Engine Traction and Reduced Power Warnings

2006 Chevy Impala LT. V-6 3.5 liter.
Question: My wife has a 2006 Chevy Impala LT and today while driving her car the traction control light came on, immediately after that the service engine soon light appeared. Then the following messages came up " Service Traction Control" and then "Reduced Engine Power"

It was at that time that she said the car began to drive very sluggish. Luckily she was only a few blocks from home. She drove here and when I came out to look at the car the engine was sputtering very bad. Any ideas as to what this could be?

Answer: This problem with your Impala could be several things. A problem in the emission system will turn on the check engine light, and that will disable the traction control system(TRAC)- depending on the problem and code stored in the computer. Vise versa, certain problems in the traction or ABS will cause a check engine light. with the reduced power and running sluggish, you may either have an engine misfire, or an issue with electronic throttle system (TAC). That would cause the lack of power and the other warnings on the dash. A scan of the computer codes is the first step in diagnosing this problem. Many of the large parts store chains will do this for free.
