2002 Chevy Malibu 3.5L Service Engine and Electrical Problems

2002 Chevy Malibu 3.5 V6 Service engine light.
Repairs for this problem = had new battery put in 2 months ago. Also had computer re-set 2 weeks after that when the service car light came on.
Car starts fine. No electric works. fuel gauge, windows, turn signals, nothing. then after start to move car everything works. but service engine light is on.

after driving about 10 minutes that when off and never came back on. had codes checked at auto zone/battery and alternator are good/ reading showed possible wiring or vent solenoid. Am having put on machine but would like to know what to expect. I'm a women and knows nothing about cars thank you.

Answer: These things can be caused by many different things. If the scan showed a problem with the EVAP Vent Solenoid, that would explain the check engine light, but not the other electrical things that do not work. Check fuses. The fuel gauge, windows, turn signals could be related to the Body Control Module (BCM), or the ignition switch. The ignition switch feeds power to many of the cars systems, including the ones you are having problem with. A loose battery connection, ground or other wiring connection can also do this, since moving the car things started working.

Malibu Turn Signals and Starter Problem

Problem with my  2002 Chevy Malibu. Engine size = 3.1 V6.
Ignition Cylinder, Camshaft Sensor, Lower Intake Gasket replaced.
Question = I have a 2002 Malibu and my turn signals wont work all the time. They will work for about 15 minutes then stop working. What is the problem and also my keyless entry remotes stopped working for my car and I changed the batteries. Thank you.

Answer: A common problem with turn signals on this Malibu is actually the hazard switch. The hazard switch in the dash is also the turn signal flasher.
There are a few articles on this on our site. Try pressing the switch in and out slowly and you may experience the problem. If so, then just remove the dash trim panel and replace the switch.

Starter Location

1998 Chevy Malibu 2.4 L 4 cylinder.
Where is the starter located on a 1998 Chevy Malibu 2.4L and is it a complicated repair job? I would like to fix my car myself and not pay a mechanic.

Answer: The starter is located on the front of the engine under the car perpendicular to the radiator. It it is up under the intake manifold, which is also on the front of the engine. The starter bolts are horizontal into the transmission. There are 2 of them. The top starter bolt is a little difficult to get to. You can't see it. You have to sort of feel for it and get a socket on an extension to reach it. Once the bolts are out remove the wires noting where they go on the new one. Be sure to disconnect the battery before you start or you can easily short something out like a module or at minimum just some fuses.

I OWN A 2000 MALIBU. I HAVE BASICALLY REPLACED EVERYTHING EXCEPT THE TRANSMISSION. HOWEVER MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON AND NOW IT OVERHEATS AND LEAKS ANTIFREEZE ONLY SOMETIMES? I HAVE REPLACED BOTH HEADS SO WHAT DO YOU THINK?

You would need to get the computer scanned to get the codes stored for that problem. Coolant leaks at times would need to have a pressure test done on the system. There are many things that can leak besides the cylinder heads. Water pumps can leak at different times. Depending on which engine you have in your Impala, there are also other common areas of coolant leaks.
