Location of Shift Control Solenoid in the Transmission

1999 Chevy Malibu V6 3.1 L.
Question: I'm trying to locate the shift control solenoid. I know its on the top part of the transmission near the battery area, but I need to see a picture of exactly what it is that I'm looking for. Can you help me?

Exactly which solenoid are you looking for? There are several in the transmission. They are located inside the side cover. The engine / transmission / frame assembly would need to be lowered to be able to remove the cover.

I am looking for the shift control solenois. The one that regulates acceleration and decceleration. The car stays in 2nd gear and runs at 5000 rpms.

<br />There is no solenoid that regulates acceleration and decceleration. There is a pressure control solenoid, 1-2 and 2-3 shift solenoid, TCC solenoid. They're are all located behind the side cover of the transmission on the valve body assembly. In order to remove the side cover, the drivers side of the frame needs to be lowered. This involves supporting the engine and transmision with fixtures, disconnecting the steering, and many other items. If the trans is stuck in 2nd gear, it needs to be looked at by a mechanic to determine if it is electrical or a failed hard part inside the transmission.
