Malibu Stalls After Filling With Gas

I have been taking my car to get it fixed because the check engine light kept coming on. It has been since July. First the engine started stalling after putting in gas. I had it towed 2 times. Then they said they could not find anything wrong. This car was wrecked before I bought it. First they put on a gas cap then an alternator. Then a Evap canister solenoid. After that bank 1 02 sensor. It didn't work the car kept stalling. Then I quit taking my car to this same place. I went to another guy who put on a transmission mount. He drove the car it stalled on him just after I put in gas. He said.

Answer: You did not specify what make model and year vehicle. Most of the parts that where replaced have nothing to do with a car stalling- trans mount, gas cap, EVAP solenoid.

If we dont know what the code numbers stored in the computer where, we can't help too much, but it sounds like your car may have a fuel pump problem. You would need to get the fuel pressure checked after it stalls to see if maybe it it too low. After putting gas in, if there is debris in the bottom of the tank, it can be stirred up from the force of adding. This can get caught up in the fuel pump suction strainer and restrict fuel flow and pressure. Or since it was in an accident, there could be something floating in the tank like a baffle. These are used to stop fuel slosh inside and if one came loose it can also get caught in the suction as well.

As with any car that been wrecked, there can be many strange problem because you never know how bad the damage you cant see is and you don't know how well it was repaired. These can be a nightmare to repair for any mechanic.

Chevy Malibu Stalls

2004 Malibu 2.2 liter,at low peed car stalls, put in park. Does not start, take key, put key in door lock, lock, lock and unlock few times then car starts and runs good, Then happens again, need help or car goes.

Answer: Sounds like you either have a bad ignition switch, wiring problem or a bad BCM (Body Control Module). The problem is that a BCM will not cause the car to stall, but can cause the other things, so i would think more an ignition switch problem. Tap on the key with the engine running to see if you can get it to stall or act up at all. If it does, bad ignition.

Also, if you have an alarm or remote start system, that may be going haywire. If you do, have the system disconnected first as this can case problems with all kinds of systems in the car.
