Question: I have pulled the trans pan but cannot locate the shift solenoid. Do I need to take more apart?

2006 Pontiac G6 V6 3.5l automatic.
Thanks,Jim

Answer: The shift solenoids are not located in the area. You need to take the side cover off of the transmission to reveal the valve body and solenoids.

It is a lot more involved that just pulling the trans pan. It can be done in the car, but is difficult. The best way to do this is to remove the entire transmission from the vehicle. If you are going to try to do it while the transmission is still in the car, you're going to have to remove the sub frame,

beforehand making sure the engine and trans are supported with an appropriate holding fixture. You'll need the car in the air, the front tires off, and you'll then need to lower the transmission enough to get the side cover to clear the inner body. Not easy, but possible.
