2003 Dodge Caravan Check Engine Light

2003 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport.
Question: My check engine light that had come on years ago,had it fixed and it came back on in a short while after? So I left it , its been on for three or more years now and my Van still runs great the auto mechanic said its a flaw of some type and not to worry since its been running perfect for so long and my heat guge has not changed since I bought it new in 2003? So what I am trying to say is: should I try one more time to fix it or just forget about it?

Answer: It all depends on why the engine light is on. You need to have a scan of the stored trouble codes. The number(s) that come up give an indication as to what part of the emissions system is having a problem. Is it an issue with the EVAP system, catalytic converter, fuel injector, EGR, etc. If the engine in your Caravan is running fine and not misfiring, then you should be fine to keep driving it. But depending on the codes, you could be not getting the best fuel mileage, and you will not pass the state smog test if that is required in your area. So again, it is really up to you. But i would suggest getting it fixed. The computer sees a problem and it should be repaired.

Grand Caravan Power Steering Fluid

2003 Dodge Grand Caravan sport.
Question Here: the previous owner of my van replaced the power steering pump and put power steering fluid in it instead of transmission fluid. Can this make the check engine light come on?

Answer: No, this would not cause the check engine light to come on. In fact, many people put transmission fluid in the power steering system. They say it helps with a pump that may be whining. You need to have a scan of the computer codes for the warning light. There must be an emissions related problem- like a sensor gone bad.
