2005 G35 coupe gas smell/ coolant spilling

Post by ckwak » Wed Oct 01, 2014 5:43 pm

So today I was refilling my coolant reservoir and I did not use a funnel, I spilled a good amount all around the coolant reservoir, I did not think much of it and i started driving and started to smell gas in my car, at first I thought it might be a bad fuel injector but a friend told me its probably your engine getting hot and it cooking the coolant. Can someone let me know what this possibly could be and this has never happened before, only after I put in the coolant.

If you spilled a lot of coolant in the engine compartment, then yes, that would be burning off and that is what you are smelling. But, since you had to add coolant, then there must be a leak. If you have the V6 engine in your car, a common problem is a leaking intake manifold gasket or a head gasket. A cooling system pressure test needs to be done to find out where the leak is.
