GMC Acadia timing chains now oil leak

Post by guest898 » Mon Jan 06, 2014 3:20 pm

I have an 09 Acadia. Six months after I bought it, the cylinder head, timing chains, guides, tensioners had to be replaced. After that, at approximately 25000 miles later, the timing chains had to be "fixed" again. Now, I've got an oil leak from the timing cover. Could that be related to the previous repairs?

Thanks.

An oil leak at the timing cover is absolutely related to the repairs on your GMC. The timing cover gets removed to replace the timing chains. So it sounds like it is not sealed properly. Being that it was removed twice already, it is possible there is some small nick or other damage to it, but most likely just a seal problem. Take it back to the Dealer and they will fix it at no cost to you.
Here is a link to a picture of 3.6L timing chains being removed.
