Question: i have a check gauges with oil pressure problem.


What make and year vehicle?


GMC Envoy 2002.


OK. The check gauges warning comes on because of the low oil pressure problem. Is the oil pressure always low, only at idle, high engine speeds or does it bounce around?


On high engine speed i have an idle oil pressure and warning light.


OK. A common problem is a bad oil pressure switch on the engine. To be sure, an oil pressure gauge would need to be installed on the engine to check the actual internal oil pressure of the engine. This would normally cause engine noises.


some told me it would be a problem with the sensor. is that right?


Yes, they are common to fail. It is called a switch or sensor- same part.


and where is the placement of this switch?


It is located just above the oil filter.


so i can remove it from below?

but why it works on high speed and just when i press the pedal even on park.


They jump around like that. Having a pressure gauge installed would be the perfect test. And how to make that?


A gauge is a tool that test the engine oil pressure.


i should buy it and test the pressure.


It would be cheaper to just replace the switch and see if it worked, or have a mechanic test the oil pressure with his gauge. The gauge is an expensive tool.

The switch is about $30. A gauge to test the oil pressure can cost over $100 U.S.D.

    I havea 2004 gmc envoy and i just replaced the camshaft senor and now the low oil pressure is coming on in the digital read out, is this an oil pump issue or oil sending unit problem?

    This is probably just an oil pressure sender problem. I would replace that first. It is a cheap part. Or, you can put an oil pressure gauge on the engine to verify the pressure is fine.

    It means get it to a mechanic as soon as you can before you blow up the engine.

    If the oil pressure switch did not fix the problem, you may actually have low oil pressure. Get the pressure checked with a gauge.

    Yes, if the sensor is leaking, this can cause an electrical problem that the computer sees.

    Just bought a 2004 gmc envoy. My oil preasure guage reads around 60 and goes up. What could cause this and the temp gauge reads around 200 is this normal on both gauges

    Sounds like the oil pressure gauge is just inaccurate. The coolant temp gauge is functioning just fine. Around 200 degrees is the normal operating temperature.
